Sequitur Classical Academy exists to provide a classical Christian education for the purpose of teaching children to affirm the true, pursue the good, and enjoy the beautiful to the glory of Jesus Christ, by whom and for whom all things were created.
Vision for Sequitur
Christ-focused A child is a person created in the image of God with an eternal soul in need of grace from the brokenness of sin (as are all persons). - The goal of education is to produce wisdom (right feeling and thinking) resulting in virtue (right actions). God’s word instructs in virtue and is used by the Holy Spirit to enable virtue. Education itself is an act of God’s grace and results in love for God and for our neighbor. - Humility is a necessary condition for learning at every stage of life. Wisdom begins with reverence for God and the knowledge of our own ignorance. Rightly ordered loves are the fruit of learning with humility. Classically-based - All knowledge is connected and education is a joyful privilege of making connections. There is no truth separated from the Creator and all truth is unified in Him (Natural, supernatural, sciences, liberal arts, government). Sequitur desires to help our students make connections betweentheir God-given gifts and how they can be used to influence and improve the world. - Sequitur employs Christian faculty who exhibit a calling to teach, who are knowledgeable and passionate about their subject, and who love children. Faculty members at Sequitur are to be scholars themselves—incessant readers and lifetime learners. - A classical education passes on the great ideas, great books, foundational truths, time-tested structures (e.g. the Trivium), and skills of the Western tradition. Christian educators have always made use of classical pre-Christian sources because they had the common purpose of instilling virtue (courage, humility, and sacrifice) in their pupils. - The virtue of discernment is the ability, by God’s grace, to apply scriptural principles to issues and choices that are not specifically mentioned in scripture. In our modern culture, a focus of our education will be on developing discernment regarding the issues of our day.
Community-founded - Parents have the primary responsibility and privilege for the education of their children. Sequitur partners with parents using the authority delegated to us from parents. - Because all truth is unified in God, Sequitur seeks to maintain a spirit of “catholicity” or charitable Christianunity amongst our families and the diverse Christian churches they attend. We desire to never allow disputes about non-essential doctrines of faith to break our unity and love for one another in Christ. - Sequitur seeks to foster healthy ties between home and school. Specifically, we seek a clear, open, and frequent flow of communication. We rely upon parent participation in specific school activities (e.g. Parents’ Guild, House System). When conflicts arise, we are committed to restoring broken relationships and reconciling problems scripturally. Specifically, we will first address the problem directly with the people involved(not bypassingthem or discussing with outside parties). If the matter is not resolved individually, we will bring in other appropriate members of our community to seek loving resolution.
